Abstract
Reflora is an initiative which aims to increase access to and use of Brazilian plant diversity information deposited in institutions within and outside Brazil. The scoping phase was initiated by the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) in 2008/9. The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (Kew) and the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris collections were to be digitized and digitally repatriated to the Brazilian counterpart, the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden (JBRJ). Reflora has grown to become a major programme involving many scientific institutes. Here we present an account of Reflora with a particular focus on two of the early partners: Kew and JBRJ.
