Abstract

The Syrian endemic Mouterde is considered on the verge of extinction, but little available information exists for researchers, conservationists, and horticulturists. This diminutive and beautiful pale blue iris is illustrated and discussed in detail, with notes on taxonomy, biology and cultivation. The effects of armed conflict on its continued survival are described, and future actions are suggested.
