Abstract
As florestas das terras altas de Moçambique foram fortemente modificadas pelas actividades humanas durante milénios. Algumas terras altas têm penhascos rochosos íngremes e são altamente inacessíveis às pessoas e parecem relativamente intactas. As evidências da floresta e dos solos do inacessível Monte Lico mostram que o regime de incêndios mudou ao longo dos últimos milénios. Dado que o clima e os regimes de incêndios continuam a mudar, a gestão dos ecossistemas das terras altas será crucial para manter a elevada biodiversidade e os recursos hídricos das montanhas que fornecem serviços ecossistémicos essenciais às pessoas que vivem perto destas florestas.
