The genome sequence of spotted medick, Medicago arabica (L.) Huds. (Fabaceae).
We present a genome assembly from an individual (the spotted medick; Tracheophyta; Magnoliopsida; Fabales; Fabaceae). The genome sequence is 515.5 megabases in span. Most of the assembly is scaffolded into 8 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The mitochondrial and plastid genome assemblies have lengths of 324.47 kilobases and 125.07 kilobases in length, respectively.Christenhusz, Maarten J. MedGermDB : A seed germination database for characteristic species of Mediterranean habitats.
Seed germination is a crucial phase of plant responses in early life to current and future environmental conditions. However, germination data are still scarce or disaggregated for many plant lineages and regions, including global biodiversity hotspots such as the Mediterranean Basin. We present MedGermDB, the first germination database for characteristic... -

Introduced species infiltrate recent stages of succession after glacial retreat on sub-Antarctic South Georgia.
Biological invasions are one of the main drivers of global biodiversity decline. At the same time, glacial retreat induced by climate warming is occurring at an alarming rate across the globe, threatening unique taxa and ecosystems. However, we know little about how introduced species contribute to the dynamics of colonisation... -

From earthquakes to island area: multi‐scale effects upon local diversity.
Tropical forests occupy small coral atolls to the vast Amazon basin. They occur across bioregions with different geological and climatic history. Differences in area and bioregional history shape species immigration, extinction and diversification. How this effects local diversity is unclear. The Indonesian archipelago hosts thousands of tree species whose coexistence... -

Polysporangiate anthers described in Eugenia (Myrtaceae) with notes on evolutionary patterns.
Shifts towards compartmentalisation resulting in multilocular anthers have been described in some families of Myrtales but to date, not in Myrtaceae. In these other families sporogeneous tissue is partitioned by transverse or longitudinal septa, fitting the definition of the ‘polysporangiate anther’. Polysporangiate anther in Eugenia, a Neotropical genus of Myrtaceae... -

The power of citizen science to advance fungal conservation.
Fungal conservation is gaining momentum globally, but many challenges remain. To advance further, more data are needed on fungal diversity across space and time. Fundamental information regarding population sizes, trends, and geographic ranges is also critical to accurately assess the extinction risk of individual species. However, obtaining these data is... -

One sixth of Amazonian tree diversity is dependent on river floodplains.
Amazonia’s floodplain system is the largest and most biodiverse on Earth. Although forests are crucial to the ecological integrity of floodplains, our understanding of their species composition and how this may differ from surrounding forest types is still far too limited, particularly as changing inundation regimes begin to reshape floodplain... -

As currently circumscribed, the genus Dracocephalum Linnaeus (1753: 594) includes the traditionally defined Hyssopus Linnaeus (1753: 569) and Lallemantia Fischer & Meyer (1840: 52), making it the second largest genus in subtribe Nepetinae (Nepetoideae, Lamiaceae), consisting of ca. 80 species (Chen et al. 2022). UVR8‐TCP4‐LOX2 module regulates UV‐B tolerance in Arabidopsis.
The phytohormone jasmonate (JA) coordinates stress and growth responses to increase plant survival in unfavorable environments. In this study, we demonstrate that the UV RESISTANCE LOCUS 8 ‐...Li, Cheng ; Du, Jiancan ; Xu, Huini ; Feng, Zhenhua ; Chater, Caspar C. C. …

A new combination in Handroanthus (Bignoniaceae) from Brazil.
While reviewing Vellozo’s Bignoniaceae names in Floræ Fluminensis, a nomenclatural novelty came to light.
