From the frying pan: an unusual dwarf shrub from Namibia turns out to be a new brassicalean family
Tiganophyton karasense, an evergreen dwarf shrub, is described as a new species. A new genus and family are also proposed for it in the order Brassicales. Phylogenetic analysis of DNA sequence data indicate that Tiganophyton is sister to Bataceae/Salvadoraceae, and all three sister to Koeberliniaceae. First realized to be undescribed... -

Phenomenon of A.K. Skvortsov's Heritage
The main features of the scientific heritage of A.K.Skvortsov are given and its phenomenon is underlined. Some scientific approaches, such as species concept and infra-specific variability, nomenclature versus taxonomy are discussed.Belyaeva-Chamberlain, I.V.

Malaxideae (Orchidaceae) in Madagascar, the Mascarenes, Seychelles and Comoro Islands.
The tribe Malaxideae (Orchidaceae, subfamily Epidendroideae) (sensu Pridgeon et al. 2005: 453) in Madagascar and adjacent archipelagos is revised. In this region it comprises the four genera: Liparis, Malaxis, Oberonia and Stichorkis. All of the species are described and their typification, history, identification, distribution and habitat are discussed. Conservation assessments... -

Taxonomic revision of Phyllanthus (Phyllanthaceae) in Madagascar and the Comoro Islands IV: subgenus Anisonemoides section Pseudogomphidium and incertae sedis
This paper is the fourth part of the taxonomic revision of the genus Phyllanthus in Madagascar and the Comoro Islands. Here we treat Pseudogomphidium Ralim. & Cable sect. nov. consisting of nine species that we misplaced in the subgenus Gomphidium (Baill.) G.L.Webster in our previous paper. Two species are new...Ralimanana, Hélène ; Cable, Stuart

Three new species segregated from Phebalium squamulosum subsp. squamulosum (Rutaceae) based on morphological and phytochemical data
Phebalium graniticola I.Telford & J.J.Bruhl, P. stellatum I.Telford & J.J.Bruhl and P. sylvaticum I.Telford & J.J.Bruhl are segregated as new species from Phebalium squamulosum Vent. subsp. squamulosum. Essential oil data support the recognition of these species as distinct. Distributions of the new species are mapped, and their habitat and conservation status discussed....Telford, Ian R.H. ; Sadgrove, Nicholas J. ; Bruhl, Jeremy J.

Genera Palmarum - The Evolution and Classification of the Palms
Since the publication of the first edition of Genera Palmarum in 1987, there has been an explosion of interest in this quintessentially tropical flowering plant family. Palms tend to attract attention, perhaps because of their recognisable rather simple growth form, their ecological and economic importance, or indeed simply because of... -

Phylogeny of Anisopappus with species circumscriptions revisited (Asteraceae: Athroismeae)
Anisopappus (Asteraceae: Athroismeae) is a genus with its main distribution in Africa (one species also in Asia), currently considered to include around 21 species. A molecular phylogenetic study of Anisopappus is presented for the first time, based on plastid (ndhF, trnL‐trnF, trnQ‐rps16) and nuclear (ETS, ITS) data. Anisopappus is confirmed...Bengtson, Annika ; Osborne, Jo ; Anderberg, Arne A.

The inclusion of Akeassia in Grangea (Asteraceae) and description of a new species from Gabon: Grangea ogoouensis
The discovery of a new Gabonese species of Asteraceae leads us to reevaluate the distinction between the genera Grangea Adans. and Akeassia J.-P. Lebrun & Stork. The differences between the two genera proving unreliable, Akeassia is included in Grangea, resulting in the new combination Grangea grangeoides (J.-P. Lebrun & Stork)...Beentje, Henk ; Lachenaud, Olivier

Combining the small South American genus Androtrichum into Cyperus (Cyperaceae)
Background and aims – Molecular phylogenetic studies have provided a clearer understanding of the complex relationships within the family Cyperaceae. These studies have consistently shown that 12 allied genera are nested in the genus Cyperus. However, early Sanger sequencing-based phylogenies that included the two species of the small South American...Pereira-Silva, Luciana ; Trevisan, Rafael ; Rodrigues, Ana Claudia ; Larridon, Isabel
