Plant pollen and spores as sources of ice nucleating particles.
Soluble molecules released from plant pollen can nucleate ice from supercooled water and are an enigmatic source of atmospherically relevant biological ice nucleators. Recently, it has been highlighted that ice nucleating particles from pollen may possess greater potential to impact cloud glaciation than previously considered, as fragments generated by pollen...Kinney, Nina L. Four new endemic genera of Rubiaceae (Pavetteae) from Madagascar represent multiple radiations into drylands.
The taxonomic positions and phylogenetic relationships of six Pavetteae species endemic to Madagascar were tested with a phylogenetic study of the Afro-Madagascan representatives of the tribe Pavetteae based on sequence data from six markers , , , - , and ITS. The six species were resolved into four well-supported and... -

Afrothismiaceae (Dioscoreales), a new fully mycoheterotrophic family endemic to tropical Africa.
is a genus of non-photosynthetic mycoheterotrophs from the forests of continental tropical Africa. Multiple phylogenetic inferences using molecular data recover the genus as sister to a clade comprising mycoheterotrophic Thismiaceae and the photosynthetic family Taccaceae, contrary to earlier placements of and Thismiaceae within Burmanniaceae. Morphological support for separating from the... -

Strobilanthes jomyi (Acanthaceae), a remarkable new species from South India.
A new species, Strobilanthes jomyi, is described and illustrated from Kerala, India. The new species is similar to S. ixiocephala in its spheroidal, echinulate pollen, but differs in its pendulous inflorescence, thinly hispid style, exserted stamens and 4-seeded capsule with entirely pubescent seeds. It is also similar to S. ciliata...Biju, Punnakot ; Josekutty, Elayanithottathil Joseph ; Rekha, Damodaran ; Wood, John R. I.
