1086. Bulbophyllum infundibuliforme J.J. Sm. subsp. infundibuliforme : Orchidaceae.
An orchid from New Guinea and the Moluccas, J.J. Sm. subsp. is illustrated. Its taxonomy and ecology are discussed; subsp. (Schltr.) De Witte & J.J.Verm. is included for comparison.Schuiteman, André ; Lambkin, Deborah

Phylogenetics, genome size evolution and population genetics of slipper orchids in the subfamily Cypripedioideae (Orchidaceae).
Slipper orchids (subfamily Cypripedioideae) comprise five genera; Paphiopedilum, Cypripedium, Phragmipedium, Selenipedium, and Mexipedium. Phylogenetic relationships of the genus Paphiopedilum, were studied using nuclear ribosomal ITS and plastid sequence data. The results confirm that Paphiopedilum is monophyletic and support the division of the genus into three subgenera Parvisepalum, Brachypetalum and Paphiopedilum....Chochai, Araya

Species integrity and hybridization in anthropomorphic Orchis species (Orchidaceae).
Hybridization is widespread in Orchis (Orchidaceae), with 38 recorded hybrids between the 21 accepted species. The four anthropomorphic Orchis species that occur in Britain (O. anthropophora, O. militaris, O. purpurea and O. simia) are on the edge of their range and are of high conservation priority. Understanding how these species...Bersweden, Leif

Molecular ecology and conservation of Mediterranean orchids and their mycorrhizal fungi.
The distribution and abundance of orchid mycorrhizal fungi (OMF) can influence the the establishment and resulting spatial pattern, as well as the population dynamics, of their host plants. Yet, our understanding of these mycorrhizal associations is currently limited by our restricted knowledge of the ecology and spatial distribution of OMF,...Calevo, Jacopo

Evolution of Seed Dispersal Modes in the Orchidaceae: Has the Vanilla Mystery Been Solved?
Orchid seeds are predominantly wind-dispersed, often developed within dry, dehiscent fruits that typically release millions of dust-like seeds into the air. Animal-mediated seed dispersal is a lesser-known phenomenon in the family and predominantly occurs in groups belonging to early-diverging lineages bearing indehiscent, fleshy fruits with hard, rounded, dark seeds. In...
