Taxonomic Synopsis of Eriosema (Leguminosae: Papilionoideae, Phaseoleae) in Brazil
Eriosema is a pantropical genus occurring mostly in savanna vegetation and grasslands of tropical environments, with approximately 150 species and two centers of diversity, one in Africa with about 110 species, and the other in the Neotropics with about 40 species. Considering the large number of Eriosema taxa in Brazil,...Cândido, , Elisa ; de Vargas, Wanderleia ; Bezerra, Luísa ; Mansano, Vidal ; Vatanparast, Mohammad …

Two new species of Poecilanthe (Leguminosae: Papilionoideae: Brongniartieae) from Bolivia and Brazil
Two new legume species, Poecilanthe goiasana G.P.Lewis from Brazil and Poecilanthe boliviana G.P.Lewis from Bolivia, are described and illustrated. Previously seven species of the genus were recorded from Brazil, and one from Bolivia. A summary is given of the current circumscription of the papilionoid legume tribe Brongniartieae Hutch., to which...Lewis, Gwilym ; Tebbs, M. ; Wood, J. R. I.

Clusia falcata (Clusiaceae), an endangered species with exceptionally narrow leaves endemic to Chiapas, Mexico.
(Clusiaceae), a new species from Chiapas, Mexico, is described and illustrated. This new taxon is distinctive for its leaves, among the narrowest of all known species, having lanceolate to oblong laminas that are mostly 10 – 15 × 2 – 2.5 cm. The flowers have a quadrangular perianth with succulent...Luján, Manuel ; Cacho, N. Ivalú ; Pérez-Farrera, Miguel Ángel ; Hammel, Barry

Evolutionary history of CAM photosynthesis in Neotropical Clusia : insights from genomics, anatomy, physiology and climate.
Clusia is a remarkable genus of Neotropical woody plants as its members engage in either C3 photosynthesis or employ, to varying degrees, crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) photosynthesis. Information about the evolutionary history of CAM in Clusia is scarce. Restriction site-associated sequencing of 64 species (20% of the genus) provided strong... -

Hybridization: a ‘double-edged sword’ for Neotropical plant diversity.
Hybridization can facilitate both evolutionary diversification and extinction and has had a critical role in plant evolution, with c. 25% of species known to hybridize in some temperate floras. However, in the species-rich Neotropical flora, the role of hybridization in the evolution of diversity remains unclear. Our review examines studies...Schley, Rowan J ; Twyford, Alex D ; Pennington, R Toby

Morphoanatomical and phylogenetic characterization of the ectomycorrhiza between Laccaria squarrosa with Pinus pseudostrobus and its relevance for reforestation programs.
Background: Pinus (Coniferophyta) and Laccaria (Basidiomycota) establish ectomycorrhizal symbioses in natural forests. However, their detailed morphoanatomical and phylogenetic characterization have received little attention. Accurate identification of native host symbionts is of paramount relevance to the production of mycorrhized seedlings for successful reforestation programs. Questions/Objective: We aimed to determine if L....Herrera, Mariana ; Yu, Fu-Qiang ; Ramos-Rendón, David ; Martínez-Reyes, Magdalena ; Hernández-Santiago, Faustino …

Morphometric Analysis as a Tool to Resolve a Taxonomic Complex in Myrcia sect. Calyptranthes (Myrtaceae, Myrteae).
Specimens attributed to and associated species form a complex within sect. , occurring sympatrically throughout the Caribbean and Central America and sharing a continuously variable suite of morphometric traits. To ascertain whether species within this complex should be treated as separate or conspecific taxa, seven morphometric traits and a further...Burton, George P. ; Campbell, Keron C. Taxonomic monograph of Eugenia sect. Schizocalomyrtus (Myrtaceae: Myrteae), a group within Eugenia with unusual flowers.
Taxonomic monograph of Eugenia sect. Schizocalomyrtus, supported by molecular and morphological evidence, is presented. The flowers of this section have unusual fused calyces that are contrasted with standard Eugenia flowers with free calyx lobes. Because the fused calyx recurs in Myrtaceae and has been historically misleading for taxonomists, a key...Giaretta, Augusto ; Lucas, Eve ; Sano, Paulo Takeo
