Systematics studies in Pliniinae (Myrtaceae) necessitate two new combinations in Eugenia (Myrtaceae).
Although Eugenia and Plinia genera belong to different subtribes in Myrteae (Myrtaceae), shared morphological features have led to frequent mistaken identity to these species.
