On the identity of Dracocephalum breviflorum (Lamiaceae, Nepetoideae).
As currently circumscribed, the genus Dracocephalum Linnaeus (1753: 594) includes the traditionally defined Hyssopus Linnaeus (1753: 569) and Lallemantia Fischer & Meyer (1840: 52), making it the second largest genus in subtribe Nepetinae (Nepetoideae, Lamiaceae), consisting of ca. 80 species (Chen et al. 2022). Morphologically, the genus is most similar... -

Phytotaxa 100: The rise of a major journal in systematic and taxonomic botany.
Today, the 23rd of May, is the 305th birthday of Carl Linnaeus—father of plant taxonomy and founder of the modern scheme of binomial nomenclature. To join international celebrations of his birthday, we publish Phytotaxa 100, at the same time marking an important milestone in the history of this journal of...Zhang, Zhi-Qiang ; Esser, Hans-Joachim ; Christenhusz, Maarten J. Clearing up Vietnamosasa (Poaceae, Bambusoideae): typification and nomenclature of a distinctive paleotropical bamboo genus.
This paper aims to clarify and stabilize the nomenclature of the singular fire-adapted South-East Asian bamboo genus Vietnamosasa Nguyen (1990: 221), and the specific taxa it comprises, by designating lectotypes and neotypes to allow accurate application of the published names. Little attention has been given to this genus in the...Haevermans, Thomas ; Nguyen, Bich Loan ; Gurgand, Jacques ; Haevermans, Agathe ; Dransfield, Soejatmi …

Hellenia Retz., the correct name for Cheilocostus C.D.Specht (Costaceae).

A new combination in Handroanthus (Bignoniaceae) from Brazil.
While reviewing Vellozo’s Bignoniaceae names in Floræ Fluminensis, a nomenclatural novelty came to light. The name Bignonia longiflora Vellozo, being a later homonym of B. longiflora Cavanilles, was deemed illegitimate. Consequently, Vellozo’s name was eventually replaced with Tecoma speciosa Candolle ex Martius. However, when Tabebuia Gomes ex Candolle was considered... -

New combinations in and typification of tropical African species of Urochloa (incl. Brachiaria) (Poaceae).
Detailed morphological and molecular research has led to the conclusion that the majority of the species of the genus have to move to the much smaller genus . Although many of the necessary new combinations were made, in Africa a fair number of accepted species still do not yet have...Oulo, M. ; van der Zon, A.P.M. ; Sosef, M. S. M.

Validation of three Indo-Chinese Clerodendrum (Lamiaceae).
Re-examination of nomenclature of three Indo-Chinese species, Clerodendrum adenocalyx, C. nhatrangense and C. palmatolobatum reveals that their names are invalidly published according to Article 39.1. in the International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi, and Plants (ICN): all these species published in 1935 were described without a Latin diagnosis. Creating a multi-linked dynamic dataset: a case study of plant genera named for women.
A discussion on social media led to the formation of a multidisciplinary group working on this project to highlight women’s contributions to science. The role of marginalised groups in science has been a topic of much discussion, but data on these contributions are largely lacking. Our motivation for the development... -

A conceptual framework for nomenclatural stability and validity of medically important fungi: a proposed global consensus guideline for fungal name changes supported by ABP, ASM, CLSI, ECMM, ESCMID-EFISG, EUCAST-AFST, FDLC, IDSA, ISHAM, MMSA, and MSGERC.
The rapid pace of name changes of medically important fungi is creating challenges for clinical laboratories and clinicians involved in patient care. We describe two sources of name change which have different drivers, at the species versus the genus level. Some suggestions are made here to reduce the number of...de Hoog, Sybren ; Walsh, Thomas J. ; Ahmed, Sarah A. ; Alastruey-Izquierdo, Ana ; Alexander, Barbara D. …
