Marsh-orchids of Canada: long-standing mysteries partially solved.
Between 1959 and 1988, three populations of purple-flowered terrestrial orchids attributable to subgenus were discovered in Canada. The populations at Timmins, Ontario, and St John's, Newfoundland were strongly marked on both flowers and leaves, in contrast with the anthocyanin-deficient population at Tilt Cove, Newfoundland. All three populations have since experienced... -

Molecular phylogenetics of Distephanus supports the recognition of a new tribe, Distephaneae (Asteraceae).
Distephanus Cass. comprises 43 distinctive species of shrubs and small trees that have been placed historically within the ironweed tribe, Vernonieae (Asteraceae). Using the most expansive sampling of Distephanus to date, this study aims to test the monophyly of this genus and facilitate its classification. Molecular phylogenetic analyses were conducted...Gostel, M. R. ; Loeuille, Benoit ; Santana, Mariana Henriques ; Kelloff, Carol L ; Chan, Raymund …

The paper supplements a taxonomic revision of the New World species of by Wilmot‐Dear and Friis in 1996 and a supplement in 2011 with an additional new species. Here another new species of Friis, Wilmot‐Dear & A. K. Monro, is described from a restricted area of xerophytic scrub vegetation on...Wilmot‐Dear, Christine Melanie ; Friis, Ib ; Monro, Alex K.

Calamus kebariensis (Arecaceae)—a new montane rattan from New Guinea.
Calamus kebariensis (Arecaceae or Palmae), a new species of rattan from the Bird’s Head Peninsula in West Papua, Indonesia, is described and illustrated. This species, which, among the New Guinea Calamus species, most closely resembles C. cuthbertsonii and C. spanostachys, is distinguished by its short and extremely slender stems, finely...Maturbongs, Rudi A. ; Dransfield, John ; Baker, William

Revision of the fern family Marattiaceae in the Seychelles with two new species and a discussion of the African Ptisana fraxinea complex.
The fern flora of the Seychelles archipelago remains relatively poorly known. Current projects involving the development of the Seychelles National Herbarium and study of key biodiversity areas have resulted in extensive new explorations on the granitic islands. Historical literature, newly collected specimens and older collections have been revised for the... -

Seed dormancy and germination in three Crocus ser. Verni species (Iridaceae): implications for evolution of dormancy within the genus.
The aim of this work was to examine whether seed ecophysiological traits in three closely related species were associated with ecological niche differentiation and species divergence. Seeds of the temperate tetraploid cytotype of , the sub‐ editerranean and the Mediterranean were placed either on agar in the laboratory under different...
