Estimation of contemporary effective population size in plant populations: Limitations of genomic datasets.
Effective population size ( ) is a pivotal evolutionary parameter with crucial implications in conservation practice and policy. Genetic methods to estimate have been preferred over demographic methods because they rely on genetic data rather than time‐consuming ecological monitoring. Methods based on linkage disequilibrium (LD), in particular, have become popular... -

Nitrogen-fixing and non-nitrogen-fixing legume plants differ in leaf nutrient concentrations and relationships between photosynthetic and hydraulic traits.
Legumes account for a significant proportion of plants in the terrestrial ecosystems. Nitrogen-fixing capability of certain legumes is a pivotal trait that contributes to their ecological dominance. Yet, the functional traits and trait relationships between N-fixer and non-N-fixer legumes are poorly understood. Here, we investigated 27 functional traits associated with... -

A glimpse into the diversity of Colombian Acanthaceae.
A short visit to four Colombian herbaria in 2022 is highlighted as an example of modern-day herbarium plant hunting which resulted in the discovery of 14 new species: J.R.I.Wood, J.R.I.Wood & Hoyos-Gómez, J.R.I.Wood, J.R.I.Wood, J.R.I.Wood & Hoyos-Gómez, J.R.I.Wood & Hoyos-Gómez, J.R.I.Wood, J.R.I.Wood & Hoyos-Gómez, J.R.I.Wood, J.R.I.Wood, J.R.I.Wood, J.R.I.Wood & Hoyos-Gómez...Wood, John R. The genome sequence of lesser trefoil or Irish shamrock, Trifolium dubium Sibth. (Fabaceae).
We present a genome assembly from an individual (lesser trefoil; Tracheophyta; Magnoliopsida; Fabales; Fabaceae) as part of a collaboration between the Darwin Tree of Life and the European Reference Genome Atlas. The genome sequence is 679.1 megabases in span. Most of the assembly is scaffolded into 15 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The...Ruhsam, Markus ; Hollingsworth, Peter M ; Mc Cartney, Ann M. ; Herron, Katie E. ; Hughes, Graham M. …

The genome sequence of black poplar, Populus nigra subsp. betulifolia L., 1753 (Salicaceae).
We present a genome assembly from an individual subsp. (black poplar; Tracheophyta; Malpighiales; Salicaceae). The genome sequence is 413.2 megabases in span. Most of the assembly (99.73%) is scaffolded into 19 chromosomal pseudomolecules. Mitochondrial and plastid genomes were also assembled. Three mitochondrial assemblies have lengths of 281.85, 335.57 and 186.15... -

Tarenna thorelii (Rubiaceae), a new record for Thailand.
Tarenna thorelii is reported as a new record for Thailand based on collections from Khon Kaen and Roi Et Provinces. A morphological description based on Thai specimens, distribution, ecological information, conservation status, and short notes on the species as well as an illustration are provided. In addition, a lectotype for...Wirot, Wirot ; Chantaranothai, Pranom
