Scientific note: Phoretic interaction between Antherophagus (Coleoptera) and Bombus funebris (Hymenoptera), using Chuquiraga jussieui (Asteraceae) as transfer stations in the páramos.
Beetles of the genus are phoretic organisms that inhabit the nests of species. They migrate and colonize new nests using the same bumblebees as carriers. Although beetles from temperate Europe and North America are known to use some plant species to move between bumblebees, it is unknown which plants are... -

My favourite flowering image: the remarkable inside-out flowers of Lacandonia.
Flowers are deceptively simple structures, characterized by a determinate primary axis that bears organs in condensed concentric zones in a strict structural and temporal sequence. Few species have escaped these constraints, but those that have can provide insights into the evolutionary history of flowers if placed in the appropriate phylogenetic...Rudall, Paula J

The rise of baobab trees in Madagascar.
The baobab trees (genus ) have attracted tremendous attention because of their striking shape and distinctive relationships with fauna . These spectacular trees have also influenced human culture, inspiring innumerable arts, folklore and traditions. Here we sequenced genomes of all eight extant baobab species and argue that Madagascar should be... -

The Art and Science of Planning a Garden's Future.
Successful long-term plans for gardens require creativity and objectivity and need to include the insight of the horticultural teams caring for them. Garden plans take different forms and there are rival schools of thought about the merits of using external consultants or authoring exclusively in house. This essay makes the...Ikin, Ed

The genome sequence of the Fruity Milkcap, Lactarius evosmus (Kühner & Romagn., 1954).
We present a genome assembly from an individual (Fruity Milkcap; Basidiomycota; Agaricomycetes; Russulales; Russulaceae). The genome sequence is 57.2 megabases in span. Most of the assembly is scaffolded into 11 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled and is 61.51 kilobases in length.Cullington, Penny ; Douglas, Brian ; Woof, Kieran ; Gaya, Ester ; Kew Genome Acquisition Lab, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, United Kingdom …
